Our Story: More than 40 Years of Summer Camp Fun
We started as a small 10-children summer enrichment program for Butler Montessori. Now we're a caring camp community of more than 200, offering daily small-group experiences. From the very beginning, we've focused on nature, our beautiful 22-acre campus and amazing outdoor adventures.

Some call Butler Camp a hidden gem because although it's close to the Kentlands and Gaithersburg, it's nestled on a large campus backing to Seneca Creek State Park. It feels like a nature escape! Minutes from I-270, it's convenient for families who want their children to have a fun summer along with the health benefits of being in nature. It's the perfect combination of a small-camp experience with big adventures and fun. That's why our campers return year after year!

Butler Camp: Over 40 years of fun!
Butler Camp began a little over 40 years ago when Butler Montessori acquired its current campus in Darnestown, Maryland. With a beautiful 22-acre piece of land and an active equestrian community, the school started offering horseback riding lessons and summer nature explorations like creeking and hiking to students. Outdoor team-building structures and leadership training were added and gained popularity. Word spread of this caring and nature-focused camp, and the camp grew steadily every year. Now, even though we have a community of 200, we still focus on small-group experiences and know every camper and family. It's a home away from home for many of our campers and staff.
About Connor Haughey, Camp Director
I have recently moved to the Maryland area, coming from the Gulf Coast of Florida. I began working with youth camps 11 years ago at the YMCA as a counselor. I then went on to become the program director, and eventually, I oversaw all recreational programs for our organization. I have coached soccer, basketball, and football for over a decade now and love mentoring new kids. I look forward to bringing my experience and excitement to Butler Camp!
That's why I'm passionate about creating a camp experience that includes highly trained staff members, comprehensive safety protocols, fun adventures that kids love, and educational opportunities that aren't boring.
Butler Camp is a small, caring community focused on offering outdoor nature adventures, wilderness and leadership skill-building and classic camp experiences for campers ages 4.5 to 16.
Parents are often looking for that perfect camp to send their child to - one that the parent feels is safe, welcoming and caring and that the child finds fun and engaging. Butler Camp offers families the complete package. A caring and well-trained staff as well as interesting and educational adventures for campers.
